Olinda Townsite
Type: Historical Sites
Status: Open
Today, little remains of the small boom town of Olinda but the memories of old-timers and a marker. After Edward L. Doheny discovered oil here in 1897, the town flourished for over four decades. Olinda then slowly declined as the oil supply dwindled. Walter 'The Big Train' Johnson of baseball's Hall of Fame spent his boyhood years here. The marker represents California Historical Landmark #918.
