Imaging The World Through Naive Painting.Popular Art from Ibero-America.This unique collection of naive art comes from fifteen Latin American countries, Spain and Haiti. The 55 paintings on display demonstrate once again the special insights of the naive (self-taught) and talented eye. Though most of these artists are untrained in a formal sense, they are professionals for whom aesthetic expression is at the very center of life. Whether it is a tranquil landscape, a colorful celebration, or a rite of passage, these painting introduce the roots of culture for many Latin American countries. While some of the images easily portray the traditions of folk art, others evoke a mystery that does justice to the great "primitives" of our century.
