Unconscious Icons is a solo exhibition of 100 recent black and white charcoal drawings by Allison Kendis. One of Kendis' source of inspiration is deep feelings and desires from her dreams. She approaches her drawings without any preconceived ideas or icons until shapes and objects develop. This method of working is known as "automatic drawing," a method borrowed from the Dadaists and Surrealists. This process is meant to bypass the critical hemisphere of the left brain and come directly from the right intuitive side. Allison Kendis received her BFA in 1985 from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA, and has exhibited through out Orange and Los Angeles Counties. She lives in Costa Mesa, CA.
