Faces: The Facts
September 23, 1996 - January 26, 1996
Learn what visual clues we need to recognize emotions like anger or fear. Build a face from magnetic puzzle pieces. Disguise your unique face with a wig, glasses or a fake beard. Try on a half-mask, to change instantly from happy to sad. Discover why some people can cross their eyes or roll their tongues, and why everybody has hair in their ears and nose. Measure how much a person's face changes as they grow from infant to adult. Text and artifacts illustrate the necessity of protecting yourself from the sun's rays, while graphics describe the rainbow of colors possible in the skin, hair and eyes. Bring your favorite face to our place for an exploration of some fascinating facts about facial features.
Outreach Programs
Our outreach programs provide resource
materials that bring the Museum into classrooms, community centers and other
museums. Currently being offered are the Take-Out Trunks: multi-media traveling
programs with teacher's guides, books, posters, and hands-on objects covering
the areas of nutrition, Japanese culture, people with disabilities and
communication. These trunks are available to educators for 2 weeks at a time, at
a low rental fee. Also available is Stuffee, a portable 5 foot high soft
sculpture that teaches children about their own bodies, and Operation M.A.C.K.
Hospital Outreach Services, which includes special programs conducted at medical
facilities for children unable to visit the Museum.
