Harvey Milk (1931-1978) was the first openly gay person to be elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. The assassination of Milk and Mayor George Moscone (December, 1978) by Supervisor Dan White instigated the "White Night" riots, one of the largest gay rioting incidents in the city's history. Although White's defense centered on the "Twinkie Defense," instability due to eating too many Twinkies, he received the maximum sentence for his crimes-seven years and eight months. This Academy Award-winning film documents the events during the times of Harvey Milk and stands as a testament to the courage and pride he instilled in both gays and straights.(87 minutes)
