Trips that are for everyone who thinks kayaking is fun. If you have never paddled before, we'll show you enough skills to make your boat go where you want it to and have fun in the process. We paddle 6-8 still-water miles or 12-18 river miles per day, usually on flat, calm water. You don't have to be a great athlete, just active and excited about a few full days of exercise in the outdoors. Children 13 and older are welcome if accompnied by an adult.
Trips at this level are faster paced than our Recreation Level trips. This means that while conditions are generally calm, we will cover more distance. The ability to paddle efficiently and do reverse, sweep and draw strokes, and execute assisted reentries and rescues are important (skills taught in First Stroke class). We cover eight-ten miles per day.
These trips are great for those prepared to handle strenuous paddling and rough, changing conditions. We might land on rocky beaches through moderate surf and enjoy rock gardens and sea caves. We paddle up to 12-15 "rough water" miles per day to explore our destination fully. Solo reentry, surf landing, being "sea-sick proof" and open ocean paddling skills required. Sport Level skills plus open ocean experience required.
Paddling along exposed coastlines is what our Sport Level trips are all about. This environment requires the ability to paddle through wind, rough seas and surf. We maintain a spirited pace, covering 8-12 "open ocean" miles per day, and are treated to some very remote coastlines. Solo reentry, surf landing, and being "sea-sick proof" required (skills taught in our Sea Legs and Surf Zones classes or the Intensive Weekend).
