The trail is named from the canyon's five oak trees of which the trail passes as it winds up the canyon. From the shade of the oaks in the canyons lowersection the trail gradually ascends through coastal sage scrub to it's termination on the east ridge at an elevation of 700 feet. The trail is planned to be extended to Moulton Peak. Equestrian and mountain bicycling are permitted first 200 yards only.
