Many of us put in our 8-to-5 so we can afford our fun afterwards. What if we can show you a way to spend your 8-to-5 involved with the recreational activity that is normally your after-work pleasure?
You can read how working toward our goals gives us a feeling of accomplishment, but make no mistake, we're in it for the fun, too. Recreation and the internet is a new field full of opportunities and risks, and we feel the door is wide open for people looking to blaze new trails. If you'd like to join us, the first step is to discard 8-to-5 thinking, and the second is to look over these job opportunities:
If you've looked over the Good Time Net and see a job that needs to be done that isn't listed above, let us know, especially if you're the first applicant.
These are the people we're most in need of. As the name implies, you become a specialist in an area of recreation. The specialty areas match the keywords or categories used by the Good Time Net to categorize recreational events and destinations. You can find a list of these on the application form. They range from aerobics to zoos, and also include age categories from preschoolers to seniors.
Let's say you want to be a Golf Recreation Specialist. We look for someone who is familiar with the golf community, at least as a golfer. As a Golf Recreation Specialist, you would have two interwoven tasks:
You become an independent agent, much like a sales rep or a real estate agent, and we pay you a monthly fee and a commission on the sales you generate. The fee and commission percentage is negotiated for each individual based on qualifications. We also provide formal training, internet access, laptops for demos, voice mail, contact management software, brochures, business cards, shared office space, and management support.
You can focus on gathering recreational content or on ad sales, or mix both as the opportunity and your interest allow.
The process is simple. You fill out our application form, we talk, and if we have a meeting of the mind, you get started.
Photographers, like other artists, work hard to make ends meet until they establish themselves. With the arrival of the internet and the ability of web pages to display photos, photographers are using websites to help establish themselves. Our Photographer Program provides you a website that we setup and maintain for free if you provide us photographs of beaches, historical sights, museums, parks, trails, zoos, and recreational events in Orange County. You receive credits on each photo, and the website we maintain for you has links to all the web pages with photos from you.
We will also add you to the list of photographers we keep online for event promoters looking for photographers with experience in the recreational sector.
You begin by telling us a little about your background and interest, attach sample image files to the message if you wish, and we go from there. If we come to terms, we give you a list of the destinations in your area without photos. You can provide photos from your archives or take new ones while enjoying the destination.
Many a budding naturalist (geologist, historian, ecologist, paleontologist, bird watcher, science writer, etc.) has something to say about the natural, historical, or recreational resources of Orange County, but few are lucky enough to get published. Enter the internet. Our Naturalist Program offers you a podium to change that. We will provide you a website that we setup and maintain for free if you provide useful information for the Good Time Net. We'll turn any trail into an interpretive trail if you provide interesting copy describing the little-known facts along the way. Drawings and photos are welcome. The same is true about beaches, historical sights, museums, and zoos. You produce the copy, and we'll put it up on the web, with credits and copyright to you, and with a link to your website. We'll also provide the use of our facilities, talent, and equipment - which includes a high-resolution color scanner, digital camera, map making tools, a wide assortment of software, and people who know how to use them.
On top of that, we'll provide a separate website where you can promote yourself and/or your ideals.
You begin by filling in the form we use to help you introduce yourself, then we talk and see where we can go from there.
Normally, this is an unpaid, part-time option for individuals who share our goals but don't yet have the time or skill set to participate in the above programs. If you have a favorite beach, historical sight, museum, park, trail, or zoo, we will put you in touch with the organization operating it, and almost all of them have a volunteer program that will support your effort to present their facilities better on the Good Time Net. If you have a favorite recreational activity, and wish it was better represented on the Good Time Net, we will provide you with the introductions and the tools to help fill out that part of the Good Time Net. If you have a favorite organization, non-profit, or government agency and would like to help promote their recreational activities, we'll give you the forum and the tools to do so. If you are retired and would like to see more recreational opportunities for seniors, this is the place where you can do something about that yourself.
Unlike for-profit entertainment such as restaurants and movies, most recreation is funded by community organizations with a shoestring budget, and a reliance on volunteers like you.
Our contribution is our time to train you in the relevant aspects of this emerging technology, and the use of our facilities and resources. If interested, you begin by filling in the form we use to help you introduce yourself, then we talk and see where we can go from there.
