McFadden Wharf Site

Type: Historical Sites
Status: Open
Newport's municipal pier is on the site of historic McFadden Wharf, which was severely damaged by a violent storm in 1939. Because the original wharf was the terminus of the Santa Ana and Newport Railroad line, it became an important stop for coastal steamers which supplied the Santa Ana Valley with lumber and other goods during the boom years at the turn century. The site is California Historical Landmark #794.
