Help support your Zoo by joining Friends to Santa Ana Zoo. An annual membership entitles you and your family to unlimited free admission to the Santa Ana Zoo and more than 110 zoos across the country (including the Los Angeles and Santa Barbara Zoos). Other benefits include 'Animal Tales', the Zoo's bi-monthly newsletter that will keep you informed of the Friends' many activities and happenings at the Zoo. Santa Ana Zoo Gift Shop

The Santa Ana Zoo Gift Shop always has interesting and unusual gifts, stuffed animals, t-shirts and educational games and books. The gift shop is open daily 10am to 4pm, and if you are coming to shop there is no zoo admission charge. Profits from the gift shop benefit the Zoo's programs.

The Zoo now has a unique way of celebrating your child's birthday which is guaranteed to put a smile on his/her face! The following party packages are offered:

Amphitheater and Recreation Area

The Zoo amphitheater is available for rental by organizations and individuals for company babecues, concktail receptions, birthdays, anniversaries and weddings.

The amphitheater is walled with a 14' semicircular, concrete stage with alcoves on both sides and 5 rows of canopied benches which seat 150 people.

The associated 3/4 acre grass play area has 12 picnic tables with benches and 2 barbecues, as well as a volleball court and a horseshoe pit. Four hundred people can be accommodated at one time.

Rainforest Exhibit

New to the Zoo is the Rainforest Conservation Exhibit featuring a stream, 25 species of plans, as well as two-toed, iguanas, elegant crested tinamous (which resemble quail), tamarin monkeys and golden-rumped agoutis (which are rabbit sized rodents with gopher size teeh). The focal point of the exhibit is a single tree trunk with a chain saw stuck into it and burned out tree limbs which represent the slash-and-burn destruction of the rainforest in South America.



Group Reservations

Bring your school, scout troop, church or other nonprofit organization to Orange County's only accredited zoo. Observe our 50 primates with their infants and take a trip across the world to South America, Australia and Africa. A 50% discount on admission for groups of 10 or more is available. Reservations must be made two weeks in advance. For more information, call 836-4000.



Family Adventures at the Zoo

The Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park offers a variety of natural science workshops to the public on weekdays and Saturday mornings. All sessions are geared to a variety of ages and provide an exciting opportunity to learn about animals and nature firsthand. Reservations must be made in advance. Call the Zoo Education office at 836-4000 for information.



Youth Patch Program

Designed for scout troops, youth groups, etc. This program combinesa variety of nature topics such as animal classification, endangered species and predatore/prey relationships through a zoo tour , behind-the-scenes activities and examination of biofacts. Program is available on weekday or Saturday afternoons and runs 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Price is $5 per scout (includes admission, activities, student notebook and patch) and $3 per adult.
